Pokkiri - @$#&**?!

Had to watch Pokkiri this Sunday since there were no better alternatives and I was not in a mood to watch the more dramatic Guru on a lazy weekend. As is the case with all Vijay films, this one is straight out of the mass masala factory of tamil/telugu films.

Lets see what the movie offers
  1. A supreme hero who is an extremely talented fighter/dancer/singer/shooter/rider...
  2. A beautiful but dumb and confused heroine for the sake of dancing with the hero in duets ( every time the hero kills someone in front of the heroine, she cries and then all of a sudden a romantic duet comes )
  3. A villain who is an international criminal with a huge crime network and extravagant punch dialogue ( I like 3 things: killing, killing and only killing ), who gets dumber and dumber as the movie reaches its climax, where he urinates in his pants on seeing the revenge-seeking hero thus fulfilling a prophecy proclaimed earlier in the film
  4. A corrupt police officer ( and an irritating one at that ) and a bunch of honest ones
  5. A rap song just before the climax
  6. A sleazy song in the villain's den
  7. A gang of lazy friends who do nothing but give company to the hero wherever he goes
  8. A comedian who gets beaten by everyone. He too urinates in his pants
  9. High octane violence and gravity defying stunts. Our movie makers are at par with Hollywood guys in this regard. The hero's innovative ways of slitting, slithering, cutting and butchering the villains is one that rivals the gore you saw in movies like Texas chainsaw massacre, Saw etc
  10. A weather beaten plot of how the hero overcomes the crimes in the society on his own

Frankly, I did not expect anything else before watching the movie. The movie will be a hit and it will set the cash registers ringing and hence will pave way for more such movies.

Is it the demand that provides such intelligence insulting supply, or is it the low quality supply that leaves people with alternatives other than to believe that hero worship is the only entertainment available? Whatever the case may be, I don't see a solution anywhere in the near future. And that is the most worrying aspect.

Well, last sunday Big clash b/w the titans ManU and Arsenal match was there, but the author was saying no alternatives, may be the author doesn't like soccer… 

Lets see what my opinions are for the each and every author view,
1. I dunno whether the writer agreeing VJ is a talented lad (or) indirectly saying he is a damn squib.

2. In a 2.25 hr movie, songs itself would take 30 minis, and in this VJ movie there r some importance given to heroine also, take lift scene, train scene, upma scene, and suttum vizhi song, and lot of seqs, so in this movie heroine comes in more than one hr, that's really fair enough. I dunno whether the writer expects only VJ-Asin sequences. If that is the case the movie would ve stayed well behind Alwar, take the movie Sachien for example...

3. Yaa I agree the Villain role should ve improved quite a lot in that movie, that too when there is a Mind-blowing talent P.Raj.

4. A corrupt police officer (and an irritating one at that), may be in that the writer should ve given specific details otherwise its very difficult to remember who is that corrupt police office instantly, like there is a diff b/w "the special one says" and "the self proclaimed Special One Jose Moruinho" says", so that we can get actuals... So in this I dunno what u meant by the way?

5. Rap song before climax, yaa now days that's become a tradition of all the big banners, otherwise after seeing 2 hr movie everybody would ve tired so some sort energy booster is required to get them back...

6. That's not really pernicious.

7. To go to movies, to go hotel, to go to drink, to go to tour, almost everywhere for anyone in the world a gang is required, but I really dunno why the author is more specific about hero s friends. Well the author should ve pointed one friend dies for hero, but says they does nothing. So died for a friend means nothing to the author. Well if the author expects some sort of performance from the friends, one pt to remember, hero is getting almost 5 crores, but his friends...

8. Well there are some gud comedy sequences too in that movie, take suttum vizhi sudaray, and at the same time some are not gud enough. So the writer should ve pointed out pros too not just cons. Its like Chelsea fan writing blog for ManU, isn't?

9. Well, when we see James bond movies or some high packed action movies, we usually say wow, mind-blowing stuff. But at the same time if our tamil hero does, it's funny. It means if someone does certain things just beyond our imagination its mind-blowing stuff, but if it is within our thinking then its damn squib. Well, there are more than crores of people who doesn't know what gravity means, so they won't think abt gravity and all 

10. I don't see much diff b/w this theme and Anniyan theme but only the way differs...

In my view, it's more to do with demand. If we take total tamilans in the world say 10 crore, for not even 10 crore audience we can't spend 500 millions to direct a movie like lord of rings or troy something like that.

Well, you can argue with the 10 to 20 years back movies like Nayagan (or) Moonraam Pirai… But that Nayagan period most of audiences were above 25. So they expected some gud class act. But now days most of the audiences are below 25, so the produces and directors only targeting young lads. They wanna to go to theaters to have some fun. Just take what happens to the movies like Rahman composed Chandra Bose (unnoticed), or Mangal Pandey. Or else take Baba movie, even the great superstar failed in giving diff taste. But take chandramukhi with damn squib double meaning comedies (with the superstar status, every Rajini fan won't like those sort of scenes) but it was a mega hit in box office. Kamal trying and tried so many things (take heyram-what happened), but people are simply not accepting. Even take PrakashRaj banner movies, they seems to be ok in the box office, but not mega hits or blockbuster. Even the last month release Bharath's Veyil seems to be a gud movie, but take box office collection.

Even take Vikram movies Kaasi, Pithamagan, Sethu with movies like Dill, Dhool, Saamy and compare the box office by yourself that tell you the story clearly, well Anniyan is a different Shankar category.

In general we bloody folks only want to have some fun (albeit low quality) and action entertainer. So we can't solely blame directors or actors since Cinema is also a business so obviously they look for certain models in order to generate profits…

Dude, I think you did not read the post in its context.

Regarding alternatives, i was talking abt movies, not all tv programs.

First, you need to understand that i am not criticizing here. I am trying to see the general trend in the movies nowadays.
1) I am not talking abt vijay, i am talking abt the hero character

2) Heroine character was dumb in the movie. This opinion has nothing to do with the length or scenes of asin. i would prefer a movie with no heroine rather than a dumb one

4) every movie shows a corrupt police officer character, i was trying to emphasize that

7) what a stupid point. any character in a movie needs to be well etched. that is my view. you can have a different view. i seriously don't understand what it has to do with salary though

8) i never said comedy was bad

9) i was talking abt violence in particular. i never criticized the stunts

10) too bad a comparison - anniyan is not the most perfect movie but definitely had a much better and interesting screenplay.

I am just asking to make movies with atleast some sense. gilli, anniyan are ok with me. but sivakasi, thirupaachi, pokkiri are an insult to intelligence in the name of entertainment.

Simply I don't want to waste your time too(Well, I too have reply comments for all your reply, but if I give, then u ll surely type something) simply because you and me(&aslam) are like two oppossite poles!

Well, millions of folks already voted for Pokkiri, so am not gonna to fight with you for your Vote!
Even the author of the blog said something just 2 days back:
Jan 21 7:06 PM(GMT+1) Unni: and i already knew the story yeah masala is fine but the violence was a bit too much very explicit other than that nice movie, aalwar is total damage i think so pokiri will definitely be a hit.

I dunno in which context he said it was a nice movie one day, but saying cheap entertainment in another day. By the way i dunno what the meaning of "nice"?

Whatever you say the fact is VJ rules and Pokkiri rocks :)
